Experts note that travel-related spending by tourists is recovering even faster. These 6.1 million tourists spent 6.9 million euros during their stay, almost reaching the level of 2019 — 7.056 million euros spent in April 2019.
Most of the Spanish tourist flow today is made up of tourists from the UK — 1.2 million people, or 20.4% of the total.
In total, 15,777,565 people spent their holidays in Spain in the first four months of 2021. The main destinations were the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Andalusia and the Balearic Islands. In 2019, a record 83.9 million tourists visited Spain. With the high season yet to come, a near-complete recovery can be predicted for the industry, which typically accounts for around 11 percent of Spain's gross domestic product.
