Scandinavia's largest museum to open in Oslo, Norway

Norwegian Oslo to open Scandinavia's largest museum

Oslo has experienced a cultural evolution in recent years. The imposing Munch Museum (Munchmuseet) has recently opened, the glass-enclosed central library has opened, and now the National Museum of Norway is looking forward to opening in June.

The State Museum is huge. In fact, these are three museums under one roof at once: the National Gallery of Norway, the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Decorative Arts. That is why it will become the largest art museum in Scandinavia.

Visitors will be able to see about 5,000 works from the museum's collection of 400,000 exhibits, located on two floors and almost 90 galleries.

These include the medieval tapestry of Baldishol, Chinese imperial porcelain, landscapes by Dutch and Flemish masters, works by artists such as Van Gogh, Goya, Picasso and Manet, the latest achievements in modern design and decorative arts. Some of the works have not been shown to the public for years, while others have never been shown at all.

In addition, the museum will feature a selection of Edvard Munch's works, including the Norwegian artist's iconic masterpiece, The Scream. .

Special rotating exhibits will be displayed in the museum's state-of-the-art Lighting Room — illuminated rooftop space.

The museum also features a café, several shops, and an outdoor terrace overlooking Oslo's harbor and fjord.

The National Museum of Norway is located in the center of Oslo on Radhusplassen Town Hall Square, next to the Nobel Peace Prize Center. It is within walking distance of the Opera House — Oslo's flagship building in white marble, the glass-enclosed Deichmann Library, which opened in June 2020, and the brand new Munch Museum, located just around the corner in the brand new Bjørvik area.

The National Museum of Norway is scheduled to open in June 11, 2022. The entrance is free. TURIZM.RU
