Wizz Air will resume direct flights to Russia from Abu Dhabi

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi — is a joint venture between the European airline Wizz Air and investment and holding company ADQ, owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi. ADQ owns a 51 percent stake in UAE-headquartered Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.

The airline first launched flights to Moscow from the UAE capital in December 2021, but quickly suspended them in February 2022 due to events in Ukraine.

But the Hungarian Wizz Air has not announced any plans to resume flights to Russia under the threat of European Union sanctions. In addition, all Wizz Air aircraft outside the UAE are registered in Europe and the UK, that is, they are subject to Russian sanctions.

The UAE has refused to join the sanctions against Russia and continues to receive Russians at its resorts. Emirates, flydubai, Etihad Airways and Air Arabia did not interrupt flights to Russia.
