Travelers, planning a trip to the Himalayas, waiting for innovation. Now foreigners wishing to visit the most sparsely populated state of Sikkim must apply for two documents: Restricted Area Permit — Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and Protected Area Permit — Permits to enter a protected area (PAP). It is assumed that all procedures will be organized online, and the mechanism itself will become operational from October this year.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, in his speech on the occasion of Independence Day, announced the introduction of an online RAP application mechanism and PAP for foreign tourists. A dedicated website is currently being developed to obtain two new documents (Restricted Area Permit and Protected Area Permit).
The Restricted Area Permit (RAP) was formerly known as the Inner Line Permit — An internal line crossing permit, which could be obtained from the Sikkim Tourism Office on the basis of a valid Indian visa.
