Easter Island in the Pacific opened its borders to international tourists

Opening of the island, one of the most isolated on Earth, made possible thanks to an agreement between the government and local communities to comply with all security measures.

Among the main measures — strengthening the local Health SEREMI team by 500%, expanding the coverage of testing, traceability and isolation. Hanga Roa hospital staff also increased by 40%, purchased and installed an oxygen station that will provide adequate medical care if COVID-19 returns.

Tourists wishing to visit the island must provide a negative PCR result taken not later than 24 hours before arrival. For children under 6 years of age, it is sufficient to provide the results of an antigen test. Those arriving directly from overseas must take an antigen test upon arrival in Rapa Nui.
