Tourists are drawn to Kaliningrad like a magnet – the city is firmly entrenched in the glory of the center of all the most European. Gothic churches, ruins of medieval castles, gates, forts and museums – there are more than enough characteristic sights. Kant Island and the Fish Village really live up to the expectations of those who are looking for that very spirit of Prussian antiquity, but some places risk being disappointed and a return to the harsh Soviet reality. In the place of the Königsberg Castle demolished in 1968, an unfinished bulk now sticks out – a dull mixture of Soviet constructivism with typical “box” architecture of the 70s. This gigantic unfinished building, enclosed by a fence and painted with graffiti here and there, is for some reason actively promoted as one of the city's symbols. The building can even be seen on souvenir postcards.

All that remains of the impregnable citadel of the Teutonic Order is a pile of bricks and fragments of the foundation. Yes, it is well-groomed and pleasant, but all that is there is a stele, a small fountain and a few benches. From afar, the port is visible from different parts of the city, but it’s clearly not worth going there on purpose. This is a huge industrial complex with kilometer-long berths, dozens of docks, engineering structures and warehouses.
